Are you a fan of Beef Pies? If you are, you really need to head to Circuit Road to try some from DP Creations!
Founded by a couple, Daniel and Pellanie, DP Creations has been in operation for about 1.5 years now. Mr Daniel used to study in Australia, and he really loved the beef pies there. He would have it almost everyday as not only was it delicious, it was also an affordable and filling option. The couple relocated to Shanghai, and that was where it all started.
Daniel wanted to relive his good old memories by making these beef pies, and they thought it would be a great idea to start selling them in Shanghai. They eventually started selling their awesome pies for about a year in Shanghai, and the rest was history.
Moving back to Singapore, they decided to continue selling their delicious beef pies. They realised there were many customers who wanted to try their pies were unable to as they don’t consume beef. Chef Pellanie then decided to offer Chicken Pie and Vegetable Pie.
Chef Pellanie explained that many of the ingredients they use are of high quality. For example, they use olive oil instead of peanut oil as the latter tends to have a taste of its own. Although it adds to the costs of making the pies, Chef Pellanie believes that these little things add up and make a difference in the taste of the pies. She makes her pies from scratch. She even weighs every single pie to ensure there is a minimum weight for the filling. ‘I must give to be happy, and I believe that if I bake with love and passion, the customers can taste it in the food’ said Chef Pellanie.
I was really excited to try the Beef Pie ($2.20)! I was really impressed and surprised by the taste of it! The crust was a little thicker than the usual pies we might be used to. It was soft and crumbly with a slight crisp to it! The filling was what blew me away. If you are a fan of beef, I am certain you will love it. It was very flavourful and the beef chunks were well coated in a thick sauce that’s cooked with beef fat. The fragrant sauce had a very unique taste, and there was a hint of sourness.
I am not quite a fan of creamy food, but I really liked their Vegetable Pie ($2.20)! According to Chef Pellanie, this version is voted their best pie by her regulars. The vegetable pie is made with butter cream, carrots, broccoli and cauliflower. Do not judge the pie by its ingredients, they might look simple but the end result was superb! Although it was creamy, the cream was light and there was a distinct taste of cauliflower. I could taste the crunchiness from the mix of vegetables and their natural sweetness too! If you are vegan, you would be glad to know you can even pre-order a 100% Vegetarian Pie where they do not use butter and eggs in the pie.
We also tried their Chicken Pie ($2.20). Sitting in the same light cream were potatoes, carrots, sweet peas and chicken chunks. The chicken was really tender, and the potatoes gave a nice crunch. They also sell a miniature version of all their pies($11 for 6 pieces).
DP Creations also sells some good egg tarts ($1.50)! Their version of egg tarts was more Western than Asian tasting. They make their crust from scratch too! The crust was crispy and it was not too sweet. When eaten hot, the custard oozes into your mouth, a little similar to the texture of a Portuguese Egg Tart. The custard had quite a distinct taste of eggs, and a nice sweet aftertaste.
I really loved their beef pies, and I hope that you will love it as much as I do. I felt that their pies were best eaten fresh out of the oven, so pop them into the oven for a minute at home before consuming them!
